ASSET MULTIPLATE CULVERTS - BENTLEY INGS CAUSEWAY
DONCASTER, SOUTH YORKSHIRE
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Constructed in 1942, Bentley Ings Pumping Station is located within the River Don flood corridor (north-east of Doncaster) and protects over 3,000 residential and commercial properties from fluvial risk.
The pumping station failed in 2007 during an extreme River Don flood event, resulting in flooding to over 1,000 properties. The aim of this project was to provide a major upgrade and refurbishment in order to greatly increase flood resilience.
PROBLEM SOLVED
A total of 19 asset MultiPlate corrugated steel culverts (length: 18m, span: 3.24m, rise: 2.35m) were strategically installed beneath the pump station access road, creating a clear path for future potential flood events.

ESG
Careful consideration was required throughout the project to minimise embedded carbon during construction. As a result, the corrugated steel sections were assembled on site to reduce installation times using modern methods of construction. The new flood route also aims at protecting local wildlife and surrounding habitats via the series of access paths for the water to flow through.
